She might be a little bit rock ‘n roll, too, but one thing’s for sure about this Lake Martin, Alabama, bride: she’s definitely more than a little bit country, as is the spirit of this entire wedding, in these charming celebration pictures from Stephen DeVries. Homespun touches are everywhere here, from homey beads and sequins on a lacy garter to casual bouquets bursting with pink and red roses and baby’s breath. But probably the most thorough evidence of “country through and through” is the signpost showing the way to the site where everybody’s getting ready: the Hank Williams Cabin, named for one of the icons of country music, adjacent to a white clapboard church and signage that also sets the tone for the day: “To have and to hold.”
This rustic backdrop forms the perfect foil for a bride in strapless white ruffles…and maids in blue dresses with cowgirl boots! The groom and his men are dapper in blue suiting and white rose boutonnieres, and the sweet “meet” between the couple is only made sweeter by the breathtaking backdrop of lakeshore, lighthouse, and sunshine. They all get to the church on time, then lead the way to an outdoor reception with a definite “family picnic” feel, from cheese appetizers and tables by the lake to corn-tosses and two-stepping after dark under colored lights to the music of a live band. After one of the “cowgirls” catches the bouquet, the bride slips into a going-away dress dashes away hand-in-hand with her new husband into a starlit future together.
