New York, New York — it just has a magical sound to it, doesn’t it? That magic goes double when an Irish and Dominican family come together for a festive summertime wedding in the city, as shown here in this couple’s album by Stephen DeVries. The bride receives tender loving attention from many sources: her makeup assistant, her mother, and her hairdresser, who sets a gorgeous jeweled band across her neat updo. Her dress looks like something off the top of a cake: layers and layers of white ruffles and a simple strapless top; her shoes sparkle like the stars in her eyes. After the “reveal” at the elevator, the happy couple promenade up an avenue or two, posing beneath a giant “LOVE” graphic (fitting!).
Then it’s on to church for the solemn ceremony — and more promenading through the Manhattan streets, much to the delight of passersby. The colors of the day? Bubbly — bottles with labels that say “Drink me” on them — along with purples and pinks. Maids in elegant purple ruffles pose with the bride, while the men’s lavender socks are a huge hit. The sense of fun here is contagious: witness the quiet attendant at one table, hand-rolling cigars. In quick order, the guests enjoy dinner, cutting the cake — a magnificent three-layer rectangular affair — and then hit the dance floor. In brief stolen moments, the bride and groom grab rooftop chairs, have a look at their home town…and enjoy the ambience of a special day in one of the most special cities in the world.
