This collection of images from a casual wedding in Piedmont, Alabama, shows you a couple with a fun spirit and smiles at the ready — a bright, happy collection from Stephen DeVries. Of course, the junior members of the party aren’t particularly impressed by the time it takes sitting in a chair to get their hair done…but they get over any grumbles soon enough as the little girls get dressed in frothy white sleeveless frocks with wide, colorful, satin ribbons. The bride is clad in simple lacy elegance, strapless and cool for a Southern summer day; she waits in the shade of the yard for her groom’s “reveal.” Meanwhile, the groom is having a great time mugging with his best man, and the maids have a few giggles of their own as they gather everyone together for a picture.
Is there anything cuter than three little girls with flower baskets? We think not — but the bride and groom having a kiss on a playground swing (or playing on the seesaw and slides) might come in a close second. People are dressed for easygoing fun at this reception; no stuffed shirts here, and no long formal tables with too many pieces of silverware. Instead, there’s a tower of mini-cupcakes decorated with a “daisy” motif (no doubt echoing the daisies behind the sweet table). There’s also a “tower” of plastic glasses at one table, with a wide-eyed guest cheering on the man putting the topper on it. Soon, the bride and groom change into their “going-away” outfits — jeans and sundress — and are sent out the door with their guests’ best wishes…in a shower of paper airplanes!
