This fall 2013, Monique Lhuillier is offering essentially traditional bridal attire. Stark whites, lovely lace, flowing trains, and full skirts prevail in the bridal collection that Lhuillier showed. The collection also features many strapless beauties, however, that have taken a bit of an original departure. Many of the designs she has created have sheer tops with embroidery, beading, or appliqué that appears tattooed onto the skin in an oddly feminine way. Other designs show long, lace, Middleton-esque sleeves, and a few models can even boast of having brought the peplum out of the boardroom and into the bridal showroom. Many of the Monique Lhuillier fall 2013 originals can be seen at her runway show.
Her ideas are simple—“Luxury, femininity, allure, and unparalleled glamour”— and that is certainly what she has delivered. These are the basics of beauty in the fashion world, especially when it comes to wedding gowns, but they are easy to abandon in the face of difficulty. Monique Lhuillier does not relent. She faces the challenge head on in this bridal collection and turns it into a triumph of classic feminine beauty with a modern edge. Any bride would be honored to wear one of these gowns down the aisle for a camera that will create a timeless record.
