With the aim of a useful and fun family space in mind, Anthony Paul, of Anthony Paul Landscape Design, created a garden that incorporates “…sculpture, color-change lighting and an outdoor pizza oven.” Family fun times can start at the sandstone terrace that surrounds the house, a large space that allows for plenty of company and activity. Custom-designed planters are oversized circles, affording ample root space for ornamental trees; down the steps, you’ll find outdoor “rooms” tucked away behind lush hedges and among graceful palms nestled beside wood-slat privacy fencing. Graceful native grasses provide subtle screening next to an elegant pool, equipped with a small pool house and lots of space to catch rays. But no matter the occasion or time of day, this yard space fills the bill.
A variety of seating on the patio holds both a clever “conversation pit” and an al-fresco table and chairs. Behind the pool is another seating area, a nifty spot to pause beneath a shady umbrella between laps. Beside the secluded outdoor kitchen, wood benches provide space to relax over a meal, and the central fire pit invites conversations under the stars. But by far the most striking element in this design is the exterior “color change” lighting: it segues from blues to purples to fuchsias and back, turning the yard into a sophisticated fun spot after dark and lending an Art Deco touch to the curved lines of the pool house. With lush green all around, comfortable and warm wood accents, and the unexpected dashes of color by night, this plan serves up fun times for the family at Kingston Hill…thanks to Anthony Paul.
