As children of the 80’s, we had weird ideas about what would be fashionable today with Jetson-like space suits in mind. As it turns out, fashion today is actually reverting back to the 80’s in a surprising twist. The Chanel Haute Couture Autumn/Winter 2013/2014 Collection begs to differ with the fashion world turning back the hands of time, and wants us to take a leap into the fashion future. The collection is busy with a new interpretation of trench coats, wide belts, evening gowns, and even wedding gowns. Several of the looks in the collection favor the clothing we see in movies in a post-apocalyptic world; however, if you take a closer look, you will notice knits and sequins blended into the styles. The setting for the collection fashion show is a post-apocalyptic and damaged warehouse that could have easily been mistaken for a movie set, as seen in the video.
The knitted jackets, interwoven with distinct character, paired with “damaged” knee-high dresses and superb sequined dresses, are complete with knee to thigh-high boots. The collection gets very interesting with the evening gowns. The gowns feature several distinctive patterns that blend a gothic and a futuristic space age look, resulting in a very curious sight to see. While many of the looks are loose fitting, several form-fitting gowns in the collection are stunning through their creativity and individuality. The shoulder-less, sequined, deep V- bodices contrast sharply with loose sheer skirts. In the event the world does get overrun with zombies, at least we know we will all be well dressed with the Chanel Fall/Winter 2013/2014 Haute Couture Collection.
