With one look, you know this bride and groom planned to enjoy their wedding day to the hilt — from the crazy faces the bride makes during her “primping” session, through the fact that the groom doesn’t even wear a tie, much less a tuxedo, and his bride’s wearing cowgirl boots: it’s all part of a casual November wedding in Birmingham, Alabama, as pictured by Stephen DeVries. The outdoor wedding site is set up, complete with white folding chairs and signs saying “Do not Feed Ducks or Geese”; the bride and her maids, in pale blue and yellow, have a ball posing for pictures beneath the trees. Meanwhile, the groom’s up in one — a tree, that is — for a dashing casual shot before he comes down to a very warm embrace from two of his groomsmen!
As the sun sets, the two say “I do” beneath a wash of fall color; as evening falls and a chill descends, the bride dons a short mink wrap on the way to a reception in an open-air pavilion of wood beams and white lights. Cake? Well, no, not exactly: the featured dessert tonight is doughnuts, a pile of them of all varieties (including “holes,” of course). As the guests mingle between indoors and outdoors, the dancing begins, with even the tiniest members having a twirl — and a guest taking a picture of the wedding photographer. Then, the happy couple poses with the recipients of bouquet and garter, respectively, and are seen off in a flurry of flower petals for their honeymoon…in Bali!
