“My inspiration was classic Sixties Mod eyes,” stated the make-up artist, Uzo from Nars. The look for the models walking the runway at New York Fashion Week for the Carmen Marc Valvo Spring 2014 RTW Collection was the classic Mod look with a modern twist. Uzo went on to state, “You have to have something that still makes a statement but not too much.” Uzo used Key Largo Duo Eyeshadow on the crease of the eye to add a golden shimmer to the model’s eyes. Her focus was to create the perfect eyes, she used Sheer Glow Foundation on the model’s faces followed up by loose powder to perfect the velvety texture, citing that dewy faces are dead and matte is the new sexy.
The inspiration for the model’s hair was “techno tribal” according to hairstylist Ted Gibson. “The clothes have a strong statement so we wanted to have a strong statement for the hair,” stated Gibson. The wigs perfectly matched the collections monochromatic theme with two-toned, bobbed wigs with platinum blond on top and black on the bottom. He used Beautiful Hold Hairspray to add hold and shine to the wigs. Gina Edwards, lead manicurist for Morgan Taylor Lacquer, kept the nails in line with the monochromatic theme using a base coat of sheer beige shade called “In the Nude”. She used a thin brush to add the black tip in “Little Black Dress” completing the black French manicure. “The Mod Crew” models completed the look of the collection perfectly on the runway.
